Valternative Energy (Pty) Ltd (“Valternative”, “we”, “our”, “us”) is committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency in how we collect, use, and safeguard your information. This Privacy Policy explains how your personal data is handled when you use the Valt Driver App, which forms part of Valternative’s electric-mobility network across Africa.
By using the Valt Driver App, you agree to this Privacy Policy and the processing of your data as described below.

Valternative Energy (Pty) Ltd is a registered company in South Africa providing electric-mobility solutions, fleet management systems, and sustainable logistics infrastructure under the Valternative brand.
Our mission is to enable transparent, data-driven, and eco-friendly mobility for professional drivers and fleet partners.

A. Driver Profile Data
- Full Name
- Phone Number & Email Address
- Profile Photo
- Driver License details (front & back)
- Identification Document (ID or Passport)
- PrDP Card or Temporary Permit
- Proof of Address & Bank Account
- Region and Province of Operation
B. Device & App Usage Data
- Device model and operating system
- App version and unique device identifier
- In-app navigation and feature usage metrics
- Crash reports and diagnostics
C. Location & Telemetry Data
- GPS location while the app is active
- Trip routes and timestamps
- Charging station navigation and state of charge (SoC)
- Battery status and vehicle performance metrics

3. How We Use Your Information

- Register and verify drivers for the Valternative network.
- Manage trips and routing across our mobility platforms.
- Display earnings and financial records in the app.
- Provide support and driver communication via in-app chat or WhatsApp.
- Monitor fleet and battery performance for operational efficiency.
- Improve safety and compliance, including vehicle violation tracking.
- Analyze usage patterns to enhance the driver experience.
We do not sell personal data to third parties.
4. Legal Basis for Processing
- Performance of a Contract – to onboard you and manage trip operations.
- Legitimate Interests – to improve safety, compliance, and app performance.
- Consent – for optional marketing or communications.
- Legal Obligation – to comply with financial and regulatory requirements.
5. Data Storage & Retention
- Active Driver Data: retained for as long as your driver account remains active.
- Trip and Location Data: retained for 90 days then anonymised for analytics.
- Financial Records: retained per SARS requirements (5 years).
- Off-boarded Drivers: personal data deleted or anonymised within 60 days after account closure.
All data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest (AES-256) on secure servers located in South Africa and the European Union.

We only share data with trusted service providers who support our operations:

- HTTPS communication with token-based authentication.

- Encrypted storage of driver documents and financial data.

- 24/7 system monitoring for data breaches.
In the event of a data breach, affected users will be notified within 72 hours.
9. Children’s Privacy
The Valt Driver App is intended only for licensed drivers aged 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18.
10. International Data Transfers
Your data may be processed on servers outside your country of residence (e.g. EU or Africa). All transfers comply with GDPR and POPIA cross-border transfer requirements and are protected by contractual clauses.
11. Cookies & Tracking
The app uses local storage and Firebase analytics to understand usage patterns. We do not use cookies for advertising or cross-app tracking.
12. Account Deletion
Drivers can request account closure and data erasure by emailing support@valt.africa with subject line “Delete My Account.” Deletion will be confirmed within 30 days unless data must be retained for legal reasons.

We may update this policy to reflect changes in law or our operations. All updates will be posted on our website and within the app, with the latest revision date displayed above.
